Son of billionaire wanted for murder safe in Yemen

Yemen has refused to extradite a well-connected Yemeni man who is wanted for murder in the United Kingdom.
Farouk Abdulhak is the son of a powerful Yemeni billionaire. He suddenly left the UK on the day of the disappearance of 23 year-old Martine Vik Magnussen.
Police say when the naked body of the raped and murdered victim was found underneath a collection of debris in Abdulhak’s block of flats in London, he was already in Yemen under the protection of his powerful family.
On Wednesday, Magnussen’s father, Odd Petter Magnussen, urged the 21 year-old man to give himself up to UK authorities as Yemeni official have refused to do so.
This came after he had heard in Westminster Coroner’s Court that his daughter had been engaged in a struggle to fight off her attacker before she was strangled or smothered to death.
The Norwegian student had left a Maddox, a nightclub in Mayfair with Mr Abdulhak following a celebration with friends for having completed the last of her exams.
Her friends later contacted police when she didn’t return home. Investigators later found some of Magnussen’s clothing in Mr Abdulhak’s apartment.
Sources say the family of Ms Magnussen is taking a civil case against the Abdulhak family into consideration.
